DEMOCRACY

Democracy is made up of two words i.e. “demos” and “kratos” which mean power or government of the people. The first democracy came in to being 350 B.C in Greek city of Athens. Chemist Stolen was said to be its founder who was very intelligent and wise politician. He raised vocal against slave society and became the source of independence for many people. Due to him, a great democratic awareness came among the people and the world’s first democracy came in to being in Athens. The new democracy of Athens was purely of peoples. No any rich had superiority over the others. All the citizens used to gather at a particular place weekly in order to decide policies of the government. All the decisions of judiciary, peace and war were taken by the common committee of the people. That democracy was not on the basis of parties but it was under the Empire. Regular elections were conducted by the two ways that is:- 1. Draw 2. Majority of votes. Following benefits were achieved by that democracy of Athens: 1. Every individual, how much poor he might be, had the right to have every position in government according to the rules of democracy. 2. A system was introduced in which 1400 officers were posted in the state so that people can be appointed on different posts. Tenure of job was up to one year and no previous employee can be appointed again. Everyone gets posts by election. 3. State had its own assembly. Every individual above 20 years was its member and number of attendants of assembly would not exceed 5000. 4. Mayor was selected 40 times a year for assembly. Assembly had speaker which together with mayor control the assembly. 5. Decision of the assembly was considered final. 6. Implementation of bill of assembly was done by the 10 appointed officers. 7. Judges of courts were elected by votes. Cases were solved by majority of votes, after which no ruler had right to admit the appeal. Sindhi culture has always remained democratic. Rulers used to have independence of expression of views. Most rulers used to hold local court system where everyone was given chance to express the views. Emperors and rulers used to go in markets like local people and solved the problems of the people. Courts were present to unsure the justice and rights of the people. The democracy in the tenure of jam nizamudin samo is the best example in the history. Sain G.M.Sayed after going through the sindh culture and all the ancient and modern systems of world have sort out few points of democracy which are as under. 1. Equality in respect of rules and regulations. 2. Independence of expression nad vocal. 3. Independence of organization and protest. 4. Independence of property and withdrawal of it. 5. Independence of job, trade and occupation. 6. Independence of preaching of religion. 7. Right of personal property. 8. Abiding the illegal work. 9. Protection of culture, language and it script. 10. Right of vote. 11. To run the government by the elected members. 12. Government should be free from religious influences. 13. Acceptance of more tan one political party. Sain gm syyed has recommended a democratic form of government in which there will be independence of expression according to the international charter of human rights. Sain G.M Syyed has condemned the ruling of government by a particular single party and emphasized on the government buy the elections. Form of government would be secular and it will have the right of personal property. Saen G.M Syyed in his book sindhu desh cho ain cha lye, had mentioned that, “Democracy is like human nature. According to it, the status of people of nation is accepted; every adult individual must have a right to elect a person for the political, economical and social issues of state and to run the government according to their will. So every individual must have a right of expression, vocal and organization. The countries where majority of people are uneducated, doesn’t have the insight of politics, poor and disorganized were under the influence of people of wise, wealthy and upper sector which used to keep them slave under their power. but by accepting the fundamental principles of democracy and express the rights of individual, people attain that political awareness gradually, not only the rights of people but the rights of nations are also accepted in the right of fundamental principles of democracy. it is clearly mentioned in the G.mist democracy that the nations will be awared and on the basis of that awareness, they will be given chance to run the government by votes and play their role in the national character by the right of expression of views. Voters will elect the members according to their eligibility. In addition, sain G.M Syyed has strictly banned the participation of feudal and industrialist in election. By such process their will be scientific progress in the society.
